So, it has begun. People from all over the United States, nay the WORLD have flocked to New York City. All the fashion elite, the fashion bloggers et al. have come to stomp out the streets of New York in their finest, boldest, oddest pieces that have been whispering to them all year from their cupboards. “Not long now” the Aztec camel Jamaican-inspired poncho would say, keeping them wide-eyed and restless.
Even from Day 1 of New York Fashion Week it has become apparent that this ‘week’ in Fall set up for the fashion magnates is considered to be a participation based event, much like a tipsy bridesmaid trying to upstage the bride at her own wedding. It is a game of one-up-manship and so far, competition has been tough. The marvels of personal style and flair have been just as well thought out and vigorously planned only comparable to the looks put together for the runway and it has been an absolute delight to see.
H&M kicked off New York Fashion Week with an intimate presentation showcasing their Spring 2014 Women’s collection. Bohemian accented details brought about by Head of Design Ann-Sofie Johansson was the main focus, mainly because of the new feel and chic twist brought to the classical comfortable look.
The playful collection inspired by Parisian cool pioneers Jane Birkin and Francoise Hardy brought about the bohemian look in a very current and fun way. The airy silks, loud design of tassels and the over the top embellishments all seemed to interplay to create this new and modern twist on an classical look.
