Q: How did you become a model, and what was your first break?

A: I first got discovered for modeling when i moved from Ipswich Town to London to study Fine Art at Goldsmiths University, I was approached by a few different agents but ended up going with Models1 who I have been with ever since. I love them all : )

Q: Who are some of your favorite fashion photographers?

A: Mert and Marcus have to be one of the most amazing creative’s I have met so far, they knew exactly what they want and how to achieve it, along with being super nice and understanding.

Q: How do you keep fit, what is your training routine and menu?

A: I travel a lot so for me it’s actually hard to keep in shape while on the move so much, but I try and do a heavy work out once a week at least, and eating as much food as possible, my metabolism is like no other!

Q: How do you define your style and what your favorite store to shop?

A: My style I would say I’m manly, rugged, gentleman. I love to wear layers of knit, and love wearing my boots!, I’m a big fan of J.crew at the moment mixed with a little all saints!

Q: What are your main interests & hobbies?

A: One of my main passions is Photography I try and shoot as much as I can whenever I have time to! I’m lucky traveling to all these locations I get inspired so early and never travel anywhere without my camera. I also own a Motorcross bike which I can’t wait to get on this weekend, it releases all my levels of any stress. I also love horse riding and fishing both very relaxing.

Ryan As a photographer:

Ryan Says about his photography path:

“Photography for me is one of the most powerful communication tools of the modern world today, I find that most people do not understand it’s true impact, benefits and power, how it effects all of our lives on a daily basis”.

“Working both sides of the lens has afforded me many wonderful opportunities and experiences. It has given me an education and desire continually to explore the question. Photography is by it’s very nature selfish. Only one eye is used to compose an image and at the precise moment of capture, only one person’s finger can press the shutter”.

“It is instinctive and therefore should be personal.”

About your Photography:

Q: How did you become a photographer?

A: Doing modeling and working with photographers and them directing you, was like a training course for me to direct when I’m taking the pictures. I like the process from model to camera to screen to print! It’s like a team effort of creativity, the more and more I experienced this process the more and more I wanted to create my own stuff, so I did.

Q: What’s your passion for photography?

A: Photography is a form of communication and capturing the moment of an action or gustier tells a story, for me it has become a source of a mobile medium for me to be creative on the go!

It’s semi instant and very addictive!

Q: How do you define your photography style?

A: I tend to love a crisp strong edged image, quite graphic. I sometimes use a process called HDR, but you have to be careful not to over use the process. But when you know an images looks right you just know!

I think it takes time to truly develop your own style, but becomes a part of your thought process once you achieve it.

Back to the modeling world:

Q:  What is the one fashion item that you can’t live without?

A: I would have to say currently my leather boots! I love them! mixed with a good turn up denim jean.

Q:  What is your favorite place in New York?

A: OMG! zoo many, I love NYC, I love central park, Brooklyn, one of my favorite BBQ houses is Blue Smoke, as it has live Jazz down stairs, which makes it magical

Q:  Who are some of your favorite designers, and why?

A: I loved John Galliano, I have walked for him a few times, and wow the creativity was epic, and we all got such a buzz from the shows, but in terms of tailoring I loved the Versace suits! David Bradshaw done a fantastic job, the suit made you feel like a million dollars!

Q: Which fashion magazines do you like to read?

A: As I a photographer I tend to look at a lot , I mainly buy vogue but only for the pictures.

Q:  Out of all of the photos the photographer took of you, which is your favorite and why?

A: I would have to say my Sri Lankan fisherman story, the whole trip was a fantastic adventure in terms of seeing the culture and exploring the island. The fisherman loved having the picture taken and worked as a team hauling the nets up from the beach, the sun was shining and I was snapping, capturing as much action as I could before the net got to the beach it was a race against time. but the results for me turned out amazing.

Q:  What is fun and rewarding about modeling?

A: The best parts are meeting new people and seeing the world, you end up going to the most strangest to amazing locations! And of course the free food ; )

Q:  What do you dislike about modeling?

A: I dislike the fact that it’s hard to plan your week in advance as you never know what might pop up or where you might have to go it makes it hard sometimes to plan with friends but that’s all part of the job

Q:  What advice do you have for other aspiring models?

A: Be yourself and enjoy the journey, don’t get too caught up if you didn’t get the job or the casting director didn’t like you, there is always more  : )

Q:  What does fashion mean to you?

A: sometimes I think it’s all bait of cobblers but then we all actually care about how we look and what we wear so it tends to be a big part of our lives, and the more you work in fashion I feel the more you pay attention to what your wearing.

Q: What distinguishes a good model from a bad one?

A: Good behavior and no diva moments I guess, I have worked with some models and just think why are you being like this surely it’s not going to help you.

but being on time and being polite I think are the key factors along with your image of course.

Q:  How has modeling changed other aspects of your life?

A: Modeling has made me grow as a person, its taught me a lot about my personality and has allowed me to explore the world which to anyone would be a changing experience, so I’m very, very grateful for that.

Q: what’s inspire you in life as a person?

A: A mixture of things, I think I have to be doing something I love, and for me being creative keeps me going! I love to be creating and doing! I never sit still and have to be active all the time!

Q: what’s the dream project you fantasize to do?

A: My dream project would to sail around the world, I love boats and the water, it completely relaxes me, but it’s a long term goal I’m not ready for that just yet.

Q:  thru out your modeling career so far what is the best memory you have?

A: One of the best memories was properly my first ever fashion show, it was in LFW ( London Fashion Week ) and was a small designer, it started at 8am. I was super nervous and worried, once I walked on to the catwalk I remember thinking OMG! This is strange!

I will never forget it. Of course the Versace Campaign shoot was pretty amazing to, having Giselle onto of me for the jeans picture was amazing too.

Q:  where do you see yourself in 10 years?

A: 10 years from now, I hope to be married and possibly working as a photographer and owning my own studio or business.
