Spirited Styles, Unusual Material Highlight Premiere Line
East Brunswick, NJ (4.13.10) – New Jersey-based Civic Duty has introduced its premiere line of leisure shoes, to be available in stores throughout the U.S. beginning in August 2010. The shoes are made of Tyvek®, a 100% recyclable material that offers comfort and durability in several fashionable styles and colors.
Tyvek® is a breakthrough concept for shoe design, according to Civic Duty founder Steven Weinreb. Made by DuPont™, the material is eco-friendly and allows for creative styling in a variety of shades, textures, and patterns. Civic Duty’s new line will feature five styles, including two high-top options, and seven colors.
“Tyvek® has shown a lot of promise in terms of both comfort and the ease with which we can create unique, fashion-forward styles,” says Weinreb. “The material has enabled us to develop some bold concepts, yet it still works for a leisure shoe—Tyvek® is lightweight, breathable, and very wearable.”
Styles for the new line are: Exhilaration, Fascination, Dedication, Illumination, and Sensation. Each style is available in seven colors: White, Pale Yellow, Brown Paper Bag, Gunmetal Gray, Periwinkle, Fudge Brownie, and Navy Blue.
Driven by its mission, “To inspire,” Civic Duty is a socially minded footwear company that seeks to produce fun and fashionable footwear while also focusing on support for social and humanitarian causes. As part of its charitable mission, the company plans to introduce a new shoe style each year for which profits will be donated to a charity selected by Civic Duty customers.

Steven Weinreb, Founder, Civic Duty, here is his story:

Steven Weinreb’s career has focused on the merchandising of high-end, leisure footwear throughout the U.S. He has held management positions with such noted brands as Marc Ecko Footwear and Gola Footwear, and was instrumental in arranging for the U.S. distribution of Paris-based Bensimon shoes. His experience ranges from creative development through manufacturing, marketing, sales, and distribution.

Steven’s energy, insights, and creative talents have helped shape Civic Duty as one of the nation’s premier U.S. companies producing eco-friendly leisure shoes. First introduced to Tyvek® as a packaging material, he quickly realized its potential as a sustainable and comfortable material for shoes, with its lightweight, breathable, and durable properties and potential for unique styling.

With the 2010 launch of Civic Duty’s first line of shoes, Steven’s dream of creating a fun and fashionable product with minimal environmental impact has been realized—but that is only part of the story. With Civic Duty, Steven is also fulfilling a vision of building a socially minded company that will inspire people to get involved and support vital causes. “I’ve been active in non-profit organizations through the years, but I always felt that I could do more,” he says. “I knew that if I made social activism and support for humanitarian causes a part of my company—and a daily commitment—I could do more.”

With that goal in mind, Civic Duty has pledged to design a shoe each year to support a charitable cause and donate 100% of the profits from the sale of that shoe to the adopted charity.

We love this shoes so grab a pair and happy holidays!
